Forest Bathing is not a hike or a naturalist tour. Rather, it is an opportunity to slow down and carefully observe our senses. We may begin to notice incredible things about ourselves and the more-than-human world around us. In escaping the rapid pace of our everyday routines we have time to experience wonder in the moment and relax into the beauty all around us.
Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku, Forest Bathing has been scientifically proven to boost immune strength, reduce stress, and improve cognitive functioning.
Important note: You remain clothed the entire time, you are "bathing" in the sites, sounds and aromas of the forest. To read more about what a Forest Bathing Experience is like, Click Here
Tours are open to all people 18 years and older. While Forest Bathing we adopt a very slow and contemplative pace. Dogs are not allowed.
Tours take place rain or shine* so be prepared for all sorts of weather. Some trails may be muddy and at times you may sit on the forest floor, so wear clothes that can get dirty. Bring a water bottle, apply sunscreen, and apply tick and mosquito repellant prior to coming.
Suggested Packing List: Small backpack for water and personal items, water bottle, long pants that you can tuck into your socks to deter ticks, hiking boots, rain jacket, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, an extra layer of clothes in case the weather changes.
*Tours may be cancelled by the guide if she determines that conditions are not safe.
Do I need to bring a swimsuit?
No. While Forest Bathing you are soaking in the sounds, sites, and aromas of the forest, not swimming in a forest lake. Dress as you would for a nice walk in the woods, being mindful of the weather.
What do you do when Forest Bathing?
Many participants "feel like themselves again" when they take the time to just relax, slow down, and notice the world around them. Forest Bathing is more similar to a meditative experience then a hike. In fact, we rarely walk more then a mile in the 3 hours of the walk. I have some mobility issues, can I go Forest Bathing?
While Forest Bathing, we walk at a contemplative pace and sit often. We don't travel far, however, one should be aware that the terrain is often uneven. Your guide is here to assist and make you feel comfortable throughout the walk. Camp chairs are available for those that would like, or bring your own.
